Living in Retirement

Retirement is not a destination but rather another phase in one’s life in which it is just as important to periodically review your overall financial position as well as keep an eye on your probabilities of continued success and the potential risks to that success.  Multiple sources of dependable, guaranteed, flexible and rising income streams all help to create financial security in retirement.

If you’re already in retirement, we’ll work with you to:

  1. Review and update your ongoing retirement income PLAN – looking at multiple growth and income scenarios will help you confirm or make new, informed decisions as to expectations, risks, continued growth and continued income. Planning for a dependable and rising income stream is even more important now. All planning should fully coordinate with your social security, pensions, business income, real estate income, disability, inheritances and any other sources of benefits and retirement income.
  1. Review and coordinate your investment STRATEGY – all investment assets, across all account vehicles, should be coordinated as to objective, asset allocation, suitable level of risk, tax treatment and income strategies. Portfolios may need to be adjusted to more conservative income-producing allocations or they may need to be adjusted to provide more continued growth over many more years in retirement. We’ll also address potential tax liabilities including required minimum distributions (RMD).  We can review and/or introduce you to philanthropic strategies like planned giving, donor advised funds, foundations and endowments.
  1. MANAGE the tools to prepare for the expected and the unexpected – we’ll work with you to address the expected…passing your estate to your loved ones and/or charities, dealing with sickness and aging – as well as the unexpected… accidents, disability, cognitive impairment and the inability to care for one’s self. These are difficult subjects and quite important to address and review periodically.  Financially empowering the people who love and care about you to be able to help you, without being a burden to them, is one of the most prudent things you can consider doing for them, for you and for your estate.
